A little bit weird, a little bit political with a lot of humor.
Modest Mouse plays live... surprise surprise.

I am glad to report that from what I could see, Issaquah, Washington-based Modest Mouse performed live on SNL, becoming the first musical guest since October 23rd(at least), to perform without the aid of a backing track or a (under)lying vocal line.

In support of their most recent album, Good News for People Who Love Bad News,(very fitting I must say), the band played two live tracks, and were surprisingly decent on a stage that is notorious for its less than stellar acoustics.

Bravo Modest Mouse, you are bringing some honor back to this 31-year old program. And hopefully your performance is going to be the first in a series of performances with integrity for the rest of this season.

Yeah, if that was live, I'll take the canned version. Or maybe none at all. I'm not a fan. Apparently.

Oh wow. Modest Mouse is so huge now. I'm still adjusting. I made a mixed cd this year for my friend's little brother and included "Cowboy Dan" and "Dramamine" on it. When I asked him how he liked those tracks, he just shrugged...until I mentioned that it was his "favorite band", and he responded excitedly. ::Sigh:: But seriously, I'm so happy for these guys--they deserve it.

they deserve it.

Well, they put in 11 solid years before this moment... so yeah, they have earned it

I had a hard time watching him sing -- poor guy's got a really awful mouth that looks very unappealing when he sings. The music was OK.

Well, I've seen some awful live performances on SNL(like the Cranberries... shudder).... and it wasn't all that bad in that light....

I don't think I've heard their music before -- maybe it sounds better on the radio? Did you ever see Weezer perform on SNL? Not good at all.

Well, Delores O'Riordan is a wailer, and my god, did she ever wail a good distance from the notes in "Zombie" that night....

I missed that one . . . (notice the use of " . . ." ) but I can imagine. So much bleeting and noise from such a tiny little woman!

Oh . . . when I said "their music" I meant Modest Mouse. Oops!

I've been hearing them and seeing their videos for a few years now... though I don't have any of their albums.

I had no idea that they'd been around very long. Very geek chic.
