A little bit weird, a little bit political with a lot of humor.
How could the British public be so wrong!

According to a poll by DVD rental firm ScreenSelect.co.uk, the 10 worst remakes were:

1) Get Carter

2) Psycho

3) Thunderbirds

4) La Femme Nikita(Point of No Return)

5) Charlie's Angels

6) Alfie

7) Planet of the Apes

8) Starsky and Hutch

9) Cape Fear

10) Oceans Eleven.

Which makes me wonder what these people were thinking... I mean, yes, there are some HORRIFIC movies in that list, but there have been much, much worse remakes than Cape Fear and Ocean's Eleven(which I enjoy).... like Shaft for instance. Don't get me wrong, I really like Samuel L. Jackson's work, but Shaft... that's a cultural institution he sullied!

What about the Italian Job? That was a steaming pile of crap... or Lost in Space... did the viewing public have to be subjected to that? Then there were the forgettable ones... like Car 54, Where are you?, the In-Laws and the Out of Towners... which thankfully, a lot of people were able to miss.

But I think the worst remake/re-envisioning of a movie has to be the Devlin/Emmerich fiasco Godzilla... in which they both sullied both Jean Reno and a giant nuclear lizard in a 2 hour span. This crime was so great that I can think of no more fitting punishment than to stick Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich in a cell for 2 years and force them to watch this movie over and over so they understand the collective pain they caused the world.

So what were the worst remakes YOU have ever seen?

OK . . . do you know anything about TVs?

When I turn on my TV the screen is white with white horizontal lines and then the TV turns itself off.

The best I could do under short circumstances is this:

http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/electronics/msg0422572015185.html

But seeing how I don't know what model of TV you have, I am at a disadvantage in trying to come up with valid solutions....

Oh, and another reason I replied to this thread: I loved what you said about Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin.

Thanks Godzilla just really pissed me off.... I'm still mad about that...

BTW, one of the great lines I heard when doing a bit of research on this was that you should NEVER, NEVER remake a movie Michael Caine starred in (The Italian Job, Get Carter and Alfie).

No, I appreciate your help. I don't know whether it's something major or something I can fix, but it's the good TV, so I'm kind of upset about it. I'm going to check that link real quick.

BTW, it's a Philips, model #32PS55 S321

You're awesome, history! That link described exactly what it's doing. It looks like something that I can *hopefully* fix. Yay!

Well, it seems possible that the model you have may have the same resistor problem as the other one, so it is probably something minor to repair. I base this on the fact that I've seen a few models from the Thomson line of electronics(RCA/GE) have similar problems across brands and model numbers.

Sorry to hijack your thread for that (as if I've never done it before!), but you helped me sooo much! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
on Nov 06, 2004
Well, I got some points out of it, so... I'm feeling ok about the hijack.... hehe...

He he he . . . gotta love late night whoring, right?
on Nov 06, 2004
My question is why did you choose to ask me this TV related query?
on Nov 06, 2004
Two reasons, really . . .

1. I figured you might know something about it 'cause you seem to know a bit about everything.
2. I figured if you didn't know, you could probably steer me in the right direction.

Should I not have asked you?

Should I not have asked you?

Oh, it wasn't anything like that Texas... it was simple curiosity on my part..
on Nov 06, 2004
*phew*

I thought maybe I had pissed you off by asking you.

I really don't think of you as a magic knowledge monkey who can answer all my little questions . . . or do I? Muahahahahahaha!
on Nov 06, 2004
*ahem*
Wow. That was lame. Don't know what got into me. Sorry!
