Oh, we all have them... those songs we know we just shouldn't like, but
something inside us just makes it so irresistible. Songs with bad lyrics or odd
instrumentation, or from an artist that is tacky... or you love heavy metal but
deep down, you just need to hear Debbie Boone belt out "You Light Up My
Life" when no one is home. Or you like jazz and reggae, but the theme song
from Footloose just gets you going too.
Come on, I know you want to confess. It'll be ok... there will be no judgment
here.
I'll tell you what, I even do a little quid pro quo here and tell you a few
of my groaners:
I recently did battle with the long version of Men Without Hats' "Safety
Dance"... it started and I just couldn't stop it for almost 2 hours. There
is also this whole drunken karaoke duet incident with Abba's "Dancing
Queen," where I knew all the words, that I am not particularly proud
of, but in the interest of being honest, I feel it is necessary to be honest.
And yes, I will admit it: I liked "Barbie Girl" and "Viva
Forever" when they came out... yeah, I finally said it, and it's great to
get it off my chest!
So, now that I've gotten the ball rolling... who will add to this motley gang
of songs we wish we could forget. I've also included as an external link VH1's
list of the worst 50 songs ever recorded to help you remember a few of them.
