A little bit weird, a little bit political with a lot of humor.
Surprise, Surprise.

This should come as a surprise to no one that saw the traffic jam mess the networks created on Thursdays at 8PM. Faced with Survivor, Everybody Hates Chris, The O.C. and Joey, this cult favorite which was picking up steam with its Lost lead in suddenly found itself without an audience. So, ABC, in its infinite wisdom, has decided to move Alias to a post-Lost slot for a few weeks before finding another place for it and then cancelling the series in May.

We all knew this was coming. ABC put the show into the crossfire and expected it to survive, and given the competition in their key demos, that wasn't happening. It wasn't the highest rated show to begin with, and to move it just as it was finding a following is a bad idea. Or a clever way of ridding the network of an expensive project. Either way, unless there is a miracle, it isn't coming back.

I think the only consolation I can find is ABC is going to let Abrams finish the series rather than leave a bunch of loose ends flopping about.

I've never watched a single episode. Perhaps if I had I would have liked it, but I never got that far.

I watch CSI, ER, the Simpsons, Family Guy, and lots and lots and lots of G4 (not my choice!). Hehe.

I haven't been as into it the past year or two, though I loved it when it first came on. I missed it when her friends were gone. I thought the whole dual life issue was interesting. You know really the Rambaldi stuff just kind of was stupid to me and that's all it became about for a season or two.

I'm all for any show with a strong female lead. This show makes me want to kick butt. I seriously want to take kickboxing. Someday. I would also like to wear hot mamacita disguises but I don't know about actually being shot at. I would be dead on my first mission, I'm afraid.

At one point in time this news (which I saw several days ago and basically ignored) would have saddened me greatly, but the most recent seasons just got too crazy, and the idiotic network move of the show to the big competition on Thursday nite sealed the fate of the show with me.

I loved the show when I first saw it. I ignored it when it first hit the network, but there was an ABC family marathon of episodes during it's first season that ran during the New Years holiday. After the first few episodes I was hooked, and loved it.

To TW and others that haven't seen it - it was very reminscent of the original Mission Impossible series, not the movies, but the old series. Sort of Mission Impossible with a mix of James Bond, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a few other great movies/shows mixed in. If you watch and enjoy Lost, you'd probably enjoy Alias as well. If you've not seen Lost, you're missing the best show on TV. At one time I would have said that about Alias, but it lost it's spot along the way. Perhaps, as my wife says, because I know that it's star, Jennifer Garner has been defiled by Ben Afleck, or more likely, because the writing hasn't been as good, and the episodes not as good in the last few seasons.

Still, if you are a DVD hound, I recommend getting the first season on DVD. At least the first disc of it. Check it out. You'll probably get hooked too. At least this show will have had a fairly long life, 100+ episodes total, which bodes well for a life in syndication. 5 seasons of DVDs, which is nothing to sneeze at. I wish I could have had the same from Firefly, but that was not to be.

*spoiler alert* They brought in someone who was a pretty female Marshall Flinkman-type.... who is trying to learn how to be a spy... slowly... I didn't like it at first, but it started to win me over.

Edit: I think the first two seasons are the keepers...

Could this, perhaps, be an attempt at a spin-off?

I think that if it didn't get cancelled, she was going to be the next Sydney Bristow.

Too bad Alias got cancelled, but you know soon as it was moved to Thursdays it was doomed. I wished it had stayed on Wednesdays after Lost. Instead they put on an overrated Invasion there.

Just pick a night and keep it there instead of constantly changing days. Fox did the same thing with Arrested Development and NBC did the same with Scrubs.

It's nice that they will let Abrams finish the series, but if he didn't make Lost do you think they still would let him finish Alias?

Never watched it myself, but I know several people who will be heartbroken.

Alias jumped the shark for me when they showed Sidney all decked out in black, head to toe, for a mission in the dark... but that cute little lilly white midriff just couldn't be covered, right? ;~D
